smitten with L.A.: a fun week Oct 7-13

Last week was a lot of fun. A tea ceremony, an opera, seeing my cello teacher perform with a chamber orchestra, successful dog training, rain, and shopping! Although I missed a few things that would've made it an incredible week, such as Cig Harvey at Julia Dean's and seeing Endeavour roam the streets of Los Angeles. Although we did get to see it's final flight the other week. It flew right over our house! So that counts. Anyways, Los Angeles has so many things to do you can never be bored.

And our first time seeing an opera:  LA Opera's Don Giovanni.  We took LA Weekly's recommendation to eat at Tina Tacos before the show. Super cheap and super delicious. And the nicest view too. :)

And I was so excited to see my cello teacher play. He is amazing! :)

photo challenge: a day in the life of...

My dear photography gal pal, Laura Evans, invited me to participate in a photo challenge yesterday. The theme being a sort of day in the life of. Well I told her my life will bore her to tears but hey, at least it will be a challenge in itself to make my life look interesting. So here it is, my little essay of yesterday's events. Well up until around 2:30 or so. And minus a few breaks I took to yap on the phone with a friend, play with our new rescue dog, and have a few cookies. 

Since I had gone to an all day workshop on Wednesday I was easily inspired to focus on more creative pursuits Thursday. But  I swear on a regular day I am much more productive. :)

i am a big nerd! i love to listen to them when i am working on the computer.

i try to stay on top of them as they come in so i can ship as quickly as i can.

who am i kidding? i will still torture my poor sweet teacher... haha

i am a pretty private person, but i don't mind sharing my love of twinkly lights that i put around the house! :)

star gazing

Two years ago I was so thrilled when the set decorators of Modern Family bought 10 prints from me for their set, not only because it is a great show, but because Ed O'Neill would be in the same room as my work! I mean, really, Al Bundy?! Who doesn't love Al Bundy? My family was pretty excited too!

So last week, when the nicest set decorator bought 2 prints from me for the second season of FX's Anger Management starring Charlie Sheen, I was swooning again! Plus earlier this spring another wonderful set decorator bought prints for the second season of HBO's Enlightened.

So now I get to daydream again at the thought of Charlie Sheen, Shawnee Smith, Selma Blair, Laura Dern and Luke Wilson standing anywhere near my work. I love it! And I love these set decs for allowing me to star gaze a bit and for inspiring me to keep taking pictures.

Rough around the edges

The other week we were on our way home from the Cleopatra exhibit at the California Science Center. We were taking surface streets to avoid rush hour on the freeways and we had to stop to take a phone call, i love that this was the view.

Lucie Foundation

My first show! I was asked by a lovely curator to participate in the Lucie Foundation's Pro'jekt LA series Hello, Goodnight: Los Angeles After Dark. The show was at Space 15Twenty in Hollywood. It was really cool to see my work projected so big! Marisa did an amazing job curating. There were so many gorgeous images and talented photographers,  I was so honored to be included.

101 woonideeen!

I just got my copy of the June/July issue of the Dutch magazine, 101 woonideeen! A few months ago there was a call for submissions to be in their Etsy supplement and I submitted my print "Surge". There were only 40 spots so I thought for sure I wouldn't get selected. But to my surprise they chose it! And they were kind enough to send a copy to all of us that were printed in the cute little booklet.
This magazine is gorgeous btw, I only wish I could read it so I could be inspired by their wonderful ideas!

And I have already had a super sweet buyer from the Netherlands who said they found my shop through the magazine. Happy Monday indeed! :)
